Custom Maverick: Dusk Gyre-VI

The Dusk Gyre-VI is a custom Maverick made by Shadow_Blaze.  It has been sanded with 100-grit sandpaper followed by 220-grit to smooth it up a bit.  It has a flat black acrylic base coat, and detailing has been done with mixtures of black and gloss light grey, and Robin's Egg Blue.  All weathering has been done with a mixture of black and silver.  I have also added craft foam to the slide and pistol grip for easier handling.
It shoots 25 feet flat, rather disappointing but I blame the old spring; this was a thrift store find for $2.  Internal mods include removal of Air-Restrictors and Dart Pegs, gluing of the slip-clutch for more reliable barrel rotation, the penny mod and catch spring addition, barrel drop extension, and all Teflon tape seal.

    More angles:

Air Restrictors and Dart Pegs have been removed and barrel drop extension performed:

I decided to weather this because of the trigger.  The trigger was Sharpie'd black and I was having trouble removing it with acetone; it removed most of it but spread the rest around.  It was easier to weather than to try and remove all of the Sharpie.

Foam on the slide and grip.  So much easier to prime.

Thanks for reading! Stay frosty, my friends.  :P

  1. Shadow you have outdone yourself. Definately worth the wait. I guess this is what my mav mods should look like. The range isn't good though. Can you improve it in anyway?

  6. If its old, you might need a new o-ring.

  7. Also, if you took out the full peg piece instead of cutting out the peg, ranges will be horrible.

  8. Thanks for the support! As far as range is concerned, the plunger tube is getting a perfect seal, as I have used teflon tape instead of the old o-ring. I cut out the peg, the ring part is still there. Like I said in the post, I think it is the spring. To give you an idea of how bad the spring is, if I had not done the penny mod, the spring would be moving around because it had been left compressed for Celestia knows how long. Anyways, this is a side-arm for indoor battles. If I want range I can always use my Switch Shot EX-3.
